Understanding GLP-1 dose titration

GLP-1 receptor agonists require a gradual dose escalation (titration) to minimize gastrointestinal side effects like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Starting at a low dose and increasing over weeks allows your body to adapt to the medication.

Standard vs. slow titration: The standard schedule follows the FDA-minimum 4-week intervals between dose increases. Some providers recommend a slower 8-week schedule for patients who experience significant side effects or prefer a more gradual approach.

Reaching maintenance dose: The maintenance dose is the target therapeutic dose where most patients see optimal results. Your provider may hold you at an intermediate dose if you are responding well or experiencing side effects.
